| Obverse description | The obverse of the host coin features a right-facing draped bust of Agustín de Iturbide, Emperor of Mexico, occupying the central field. The peripheral legend reads AUGUSTINUS DEI PROVIDENTIA, with the mint mark Mo and date 1822 positioned in the lower exergual area. Applied prominently over the portrait is the Philippine countermark: a small oval or circular punch bearing the crowned cypher Y·II (for Isabel II), applied by the Spanish colonial authorities in the Philippines between 1834 and 1837 to validate the coin for local circulation. The rim is defined by a border of fine denticles running the full circumference. |
