Obverse description The obverse of the host coin displays a radiant sun with alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a central circular field, within which a crowned 'Y II' monogram — the cypher of Isabella II — is applied as a Philippine countermark. The circumferential legend reads PROVINCIAS DEL RIO DE LA PLATA, identifying the Argentine host issue. A small floral ornament appears to the left of the legend as a decorative stop.

Reverse description The reverse features the coat of arms of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata, comprising an oval shield divided horizontally, with crossed laurel branches forming a wreath encircling the central escutcheon, surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap above crossed fasces. The denomination 8 R flanks the wreath at the sides, with the assayer's initials PTS · F and the date 1815 disposed around the lower field. The encircling legend EN UNION Y LIBERTAD arcs across the upper periphery.
