Obverse description The arms of the Republic of New Granada displayed on a shield occupying the central field, divided into three horizontal sections: the upper section depicts two cornucopiae flanking a Phrygian cap on a staff with a pomegranate above; the middle section shows a Phrygian liberty cap on a pole with a condor perched atop; and the lower section features a coastal maritime scene with ships. The circular legend reads REPUBLICA DE LA NUEVA GRANADA, and the date 1837 appears in the lower exergue. The coin is bordered by a continuous milled rim.
