Obverse description Central field bears the quartered royal arms of Spain — comprising castles of Castile and lions of León in the four quarters, with a central escutcheon — surmounted by an elaborate royal crown. The denomination VIII appears to the left of the shield, while the Seville mint mark 'S' and assayer initial 'P' are positioned to the right. A beaded inner circle frames the arms, and the surrounding legend reads PHILIPPVS V DEI GRAT, separated by small floral ornaments. The overall design follows the standard milled coinage style introduced under Philip V at the Seville mint.
