Reverse description The reverse displays a large quartered cross in the centre, dividing the field into four quarters each containing alternating castles of Castile and rampant lions of León set within a quadrilobe frame with cusped lobes. The date, rendered as four digits (e.g. 1714), appears prominently in the upper field above the cross, flanked by small rosette stops. The circular legend HISPANIARUM REX runs around the periphery, interrupted by rosette stops, within a beaded inner border aligned with the reeded edge.
