Obverse description Central field occupied by the quartered Royal Arms of Spain — displaying castles of Castile and lions of León in the four quarters, with a small escutcheon of Anjou (fleur-de-lis) en surtout — surmounted by a narrow, elaborate royal crown. The mint mark (M), assayer initial (J), and denomination numeral (8) flank the shield in the field. The surrounding circular legend reads PHILIPPVS V D G M J 8, separated by small rosette stops, all within a milled border.

Reverse description Quartered shield of Castile and León — displaying alternating castles and lions in the four quarters — set within a decorative octolobe (quadrilobe with concave sides) frame, without a central escutcheon.
