| Obverse description | Central shield divided into four quarters displaying alternating castles of Castile and lions of León, separated by a bold cross; the shield is surmounted by a royal crown flanked by the assayer's initials P and E to either side. The date 1665 appears in the lower portion of the field beneath the shield. A continuous Latin legend reading PHILIPVS IIII D G HISPANIARVM R runs along the outer border, enclosed between two concentric rows of beading. The overall design follows the standard milled coinage style of the Potosí mint under Philip IV. |
