| Obverse description | The obverse displays two applied countermarks struck over the host coin's reverse field. The Chilpanzingo Type A countermark depicts an arm holding a bow, applied as an incuse or relief punch, representing the insurgent authority of Chilpanzingo. Adjacent is the Morelos Type A countermark, consisting of a monogram within an oval border adorned with stars, attributed to the insurgent forces under José María Morelos. Both countermarks were applied during the Mexican War of Independence (circa 1806–1807) to authenticate or re-authorize circulating Spanish colonial coinage for use by rebel factions. |

| Reverse description | The reverse retains the design of the Spanish colonial host coin, a Mexico City Mint 8 Reales of the portrait type (busto coinage), struck under the assayer initials TH. The central field bears the crowned Royal Arms of Castile and León, quartered with castles and lions, flanked by the crowned Pillars of Hercules with scrolling banners. The surrounding legend reads HISPAN ET IND REX, partially obscured by wear and the application of the countermarks. The denomination numeral 8 and the mintmark Mo are visible to the left of the pillars. |
