| Reverse description | Central design features the crowned Royal Arms of Spain, depicting the quartered shield with castles of Castile and lions of León in the principal quarters, a central escutcheon bearing the fleurs-de-lis of the Bourbon dynasty, and a pomegranate for Granada at the base. The shield is flanked on either side by the Pillars of Hercules, each column wound with a banner bearing the motto PLUS ULTRA. The mint mark PTS (for Potosí) appears to the upper left of the shield, with the denomination 8R and the assayer's initials J·R to the left field. The circular Latin legend · HISPAN · ET IND · REX · and · PTS · 8 R · J · R · PLUS ULTRA encircles the composition, all within a toothed border. |
