Reverse description The quartered arms of Castile and León occupy the central field, displaying alternating castles and lions with the Bourbon fleur-de-lis escutcheon at the fess point, all surmounted by the royal crown. Flanking the shield are the two Pillars of Hercules, each encircled by a banner inscribed PLUS and ULTRA respectively. The mint mark NG and the assayer initial M appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination 8R also visible on the left. The encircling legend · HISPAN · ET IND · REX · NG · 8R · M · reads around the periphery within a toothed border.
