Reverse description A crowned Mexican eagle with wings displayed stands in profile atop a nopal cactus growing from a rocky outcrop surrounded by water, a serpent gripped in its beak and talons — the emblematic device of the First Mexican Empire. The central device is flanked by symmetrical laurel and olive branches tied at the base, forming a wreath open at the top. The commemorative legend EN SU SOLEMNE PROCLAMACION LA CIUDAD DE MEXICO encircles the upper field, while the date A 24 DE ENERO DE 1823 is inscribed in two lines in the lower exergue.
