Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of the Republic of New Granada, comprising three horizontal bands charged with a pomegranate, an isthmus between two seas with a ship, and crossed cannon below, all enclosed within an ornate shield. The arms are flanked by two upright olive or laurel branches tied at the base, forming a wreath around the central device. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE LA NUEVA GRANADA runs along the upper periphery, with the date 1847 flanked by two pellets positioned at the base of the coin below the wreath.
