Obverse description Plain field bearing three lines of incuse Latin lettering arranged vertically within a toothed or serrated inner border. The uppermost line reads '8.R.' denoting the denomination of eight reales, the central line bears the mintmark monogram 'V·A' for Valdivia, and the lower line presents the date '1822'. The design is of a primitive, emergency issue character, entirely lacking figural imagery, with all elements rendered in bold, deeply cut lettering consistent with a provisional wartime coinage.
