Additional information

Saxe-Eisenberg was among the shortest-lived of the Saxon partition duchies, created in 1680 when the Ernestine line subdivided yet again and extinguished in 1707 when Christian died without male heirs, reverting to Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. The entire independent coinage of the duchy spans less than three decades, and issues from the early 1680s — the first years after partition — are particularly scarce given the duchy's minimal economic weight and tiny territorial base around the town of Eisenberg.
