Charles XI was thirteen years old when this coin was struck, Sweden then governed by a regency council that would later be prosecuted for corruption and mismanagement. The 1665 date places this issue squarely within that regency period, before Charles assumed personal rule in 1672 and subsequently dismantled the council's power through the reduktion — a sweeping reclamation of noble estates that dramatically restructured Swedish finances.
KM#252 is a scarce type. The 8 mark denomination was short-lived in Swedish coinage, and surviving examples from the 1660s in any condition above heavily worn are genuinely uncommon in the market.
