Obverse description A crowned castle displayed within an octolobed (scalloped) inner border, surrounded by a circular legend between solid and beaded outer circles. The design is characteristic of the Felipe III maravedis roller-milled coinage. A rectangular countermark, applied plain (without value marking), is stamped in the field, revalidating the coin for continued circulation under the 1603 decree.

Reverse description A rampant lion passant displayed within an octolobed (scalloped) inner border, surrounded by a circular legend between beaded borders. A rectangular countermark bearing the value numeral VIII, with the mint mark below, is prominently applied in the central field, revalidating the original 4 maravedis coin as 8 maravedis per the royal decree of 1603. The date 1598 and mint initial B appear as part of the surrounding legend.
