Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Carlos V (Carlist pretender) facing right, the laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape, with a small mint mark to the left of the truncation. The peripheral legend reads CAROLUS · V · D · G · HISP · REX · in Latin, interrupted by the denomination numeral 8 to the right of the effigy. The date 1837 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by pellets.

Reverse description Central crowned shield bearing the quartered arms of Castile and León, surmounted by a fleur-de-lis-charged oval escutcheon representing the Bourbon dynasty. The shield is set within the Cross of Don Pelayo, whose four arms terminate in stylized finials. The entire composition is encircled by a wreath of laurel or oak, forming a decorative border within the coin's raised rim.
