| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Carlos V (Carlist pretender) facing right, the laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape, with a small mint mark to the left of the truncation. The peripheral legend reads CAROLUS · V · D · G · HISP · REX · in Latin, interrupted by the denomination numeral 8 to the right of the effigy. The date 1837 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by pellets. |
