| Reverse description | The reverse bears the IHS Christogram in large, bold letters occupying the central field, surmounted by a cross above the letter H with a small star below. The date 91 (for 1691) appears in the upper right portion of the field, while the mint name ORAN is inscribed in the lower portion beneath the monogram. The entire design is contained within an irregular, scalloped flan edge characteristic of the crude hammered coinage struck for the Spanish presidio of Oran in North Africa. |
