Obverse description Central field displays the Roman numeral VIII enclosed within a wreath or ornamented inner circle, denoting the denomination of eight Hellers. The peripheral legend reads W.L.Z.H. with the date 1658, the initials standing for Wilhelm Landgraf Zu Hessen, disposed around the outer rim in Latin script. The overall design is characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century German small coinage, struck by the hammered method resulting in an irregular flan. The coin shows typical wear and patination consistent with prolonged circulation.
