| Obverse description | Imperial double-headed eagle displayed, each head facing outward, surmounted by a single arched crown in the upper field. The eagle's dexter talon grasps a sword and the sinister talon holds a scepter. On the breast of the eagle is affixed the arms of the City of Cologne: a shield divided per fess, the upper half charged with three crowns in a row and the lower half semé of teardrops (bezants), all within an ovoid cartouche. No surrounding legend; the design fills the plain field. |
