The 8 Groschen denomination emerged directly from the Kipper- und Wipperzeit — the "clipping and culling" inflation crisis that ravaged the Holy Roman Empire between roughly 1619 and 1623. Mints across the German states, Saxony among them, debased silver coinage aggressively to exploit the chaos of the early Thirty Years' War, flooding circulation with underweight issues while hoarding full-weight coin. John George I, despite presenting Saxony as a model of Lutheran fiscal rectitude, was not immune to the temptation.
The Rah/Kr#300b attribution distinguishes this from closely related varieties in the series — a detail worth noting given how heavily these issues were later recalled and restruck.
