| Obverse description | Central field bears a three-line Arabic inscription enclosed within an inner dotted border. The uppermost line reads 'افغانستان' (Afghanistan) above the dotted circle, while within the circle the royal epithet 'المتوكل على الله' (He who trusts in God) appears above the ruler's name 'محمد ظاهر شاه' (Muhammad Zahir Shah). The central inscriptions are flanked by a wreath of wheat ears tied at the base with a ribbon, the whole set against a plain field. |
