Reverse description The reverse presents a highly detailed artistic rendering of the Passarola, the legendary airship conceived by the Portuguese Jesuit priest Bartolomeu de Gusmão circa 1709. The craft is depicted in profile, showing its characteristic bird-like hull, billowing balloon canopy formed by multiple spherical and layered sections, a large fan-like tail assembly, and a suspended gondola with ornamental rigging. A celestial orb, representing the sun or moon, appears to the right in the field. The legend REALIZAÇÕES EUROPEIAS curves along the upper periphery, while the inscription A PASSAROLA BARTOLOMEU DE GUSMÃO and the date 1709 encircle the lower portion of the design.
