Samobor's carnival is among the oldest continuously held in Croatia, with documented festivities stretching back to at least 1827, though local tradition claims considerably earlier origins. The Croatian National Bank has issued a series of large-format silver pieces tied to regional cultural events, and Samobor's Fašnik — the straw effigy burned at carnival's close — has long made this particular celebration one of the most ethnographically distinct in Central Europe.
The 155.518 g specification places this squarely in the five-troy-ounce category, a format the CNB has favored for its premium collector issues in recent years.
