| Obverse description | The Portuguese coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting the traditional shield charged with five blue escutcheons arranged in a cross, each bearing five white roundels (quinas), surrounded by a red bordure set with seven golden castles. The shield is rendered in high relief against a polished field. The circular legend REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA arcs around the upper portion of the coin, separated from the central device by a ring of raised dots. A small quatrefoil ornament appears at the bottom of the inner border, and a secondary inscription referencing the Casa da Moeda and the designer Baiba Šime is incused along the left side of the field. |
