Obverse description Central device depicts the Mexican national eagle in profile to the left, perched atop a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, with a serpent clutched in its beak. The eagle's wings are displayed upward in characteristic early republican style. The entire central device is framed below by a wreath composed of oak branches to the left and laurel branches to the right, tied at the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
