Reverse description Central crowned arms of Spain — the quartered royal shield bearing the castles of Castile and lions of León, with the Granada pomegranate in base — enclosed within an ornamental chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The assayer initial J appears to the left of the shield and the denomination numeral 8 to the right, both flanked by decorative rosettes. The mint mark G appears twice at the base, separated by a fleur-de-lis or decorative device. The circular Latin legend NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR surrounds the design, referencing the Virgilian motto adopted by the Spanish Bourbon monarchy.
