| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the quartered royal arms of Spain, displaying castles and lions in the principal quarters with the granada in base and the escutcheon of Anjou at center, all surmounted by a crowned cartouche. The elaborate shield is framed by a circular legend incorporating the date and mint mark. The peripheral legend reads PHILIPPVS V DEI G, with the date, mint mark (MXo), assayer initial (J), and denomination (VIII) distributed around the circumference in the characteristic cob-style layout. |
