Obverse description Armored bust of Charles III facing right, rendered in the style retained for early issues of Charles IV, with elaborate lace cravat and ornate cuirass visible below the truncation. The date appears in the exergue below the bust, flanked by pellets. The circular legend reads CAROL IV D G HISP ET IND REX, with the title distributed around the full periphery of the field. The portrait reflects the earlier effigy of Charles III, as the dies for this transitional issue were engraved before a new portrait of Charles IV could be introduced.
