The "6th portrait" designation marks a significant administrative moment: Susanna Blunt's effigy of Charles III was the obvious successor after Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, making any coin bearing a newly commissioned sixth portrait of Elizabeth — released posthumously in 2023 — an artifact of a production pipeline that outlasted the monarch herself. Perth Mint had already committed to this issue before her death; it shipped anyway.
