| Reverse description | A left-facing winged bust of Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, dominates the central field, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style by engraver G. M. Monassi. Mercury wears his characteristic petasus, the broad-brimmed winged helmet, with flowing hair curling beneath. The engraver's signature G.M.MONASSI appears in the lower right field. A border of five-pointed stars encircles the entire design. The legend CENTENARIO · ROMA · CAPITAL arcs along the upper periphery, while the commemorative dates 1870 / 1970 are inscribed in the lower left field, marking the centenary of Rome as capital of Italy. |
