Issued under the FAO's long-running program that commissioned commemorative coins from member nations, this piece appeared just one year before Turkey's catastrophic currency reform wiped out six zeros from the lira. The 750,000-lira face value — once unthinkable, then mundane — became obsolete almost immediately when the New Turkish Lira was introduced in January 2005.
