Tangstedt bei Pinneberg is a small municipality northwest of Hamburg, and like hundreds of German communities in the early 1920s, it resorted to locally printed Notgeld to address the chronic small-denomination coin shortage that plagued everyday commerce during the inflation period. These hyperlocal issues were produced in enormous variety and often in deliberately limited runs, since collectors had begun hoarding attractive Notgeld almost as fast as it was printed — a dynamic that distorted the entire series away from its original emergency function.
The DeNG reference places this firmly in the standard Kleingeldscheine corpus. Tangstedt's issues are not among the rarer documented municipalities, but small-run parish-level notes from this district see genuine attrition from casual disposal.
