Güstrow's municipal savings bank — the Städtische Sparkasse — issued this note during the acute small-change shortage that gripped German towns in the early 1920s, before hyperinflation made the problem irrelevant for different reasons. The 75-Pfennig denomination is a characteristic Notgeld value from this period, chosen to fill gaps between coin denominations that had effectively vanished from circulation through hoarding and metal drives.

The printer, the Hof- und Ratsbuchdruckerei, was the court and municipal press serving Güstrow directly — a locally produced note in every sense. This kind of in-house civic printing kept costs low but quality variable across the series.
