| Obverse description | Cream-coloured note printed in red and black Fraktur (blackletter) script throughout. The large heading "NOTGELDSCHEIN" is set in bold red Gothic lettering across the top, with "der Freiheit Freienohl im Sauerland" below in mixed red and black. A central circular municipal seal in red occupies the middle of the note, flanked on either side by a text block in black Fraktur stating the redemption obligation of the Gemeindekasse Freienohl. Freienohl is a small village on the Ruhr river in the Sauerland, and like hundreds of similarly modest municipalities across Germany, it issued emergency paper currency — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortages of 1917–1922. The 75-Pfennig denomination is slightly unusual; most small-town issuers defaulted to 25 and 50 Pfennig values, so the choice suggests either a specific local transaction need or a collector-market calculation made in the later "Serienscheine" phase, when municipalities openly printed attractive notes for philatelic sale rather than genuine circulation.
Freienohl was incorporated into Meschede in 1975, making the Gemeindekasse that authorized this note a long-dissolved administrative body.
