Putbus was a planned princely town — laid out from 1810 onward by Wilhelm Malte I of Putbus on the southern tip of Rügen — and its municipality issued this 75 Pfennig Notgeld note during the severe small-change shortage that followed World War One. The 75 Pfennig denomination is an odd one, rarely chosen by German municipal issuers, most of whom favored the tidier 50 or 25 Pfennig values.
Rügen's Notgeld emissions are catalogued under DeNG 1#1081 as a tight series; the .1 suffix distinguishes this specific type within that group.
