Obverse description The obverse is framed by a checkered border and divided into three horizontal bands filled with chess piece vignettes in alternating light and dark squares, evoking a chessboard motif. At upper left, a vignette of the Leuchtenburg castle near Kahla an der Saale appears alongside a heraldic dragon vignette at upper right; at lower left, a palm tree with a pineapple vignette is printed with the imprint 'L. HIMMER AUGSBURG'. The central field carries the interlaced monogram 'TSB' within a diamond-shaped chessboard cartouche, flanked by text blocks announcing the XXIXth Congress of the Thuringian Chess Federation and the voucher denomination of three-quarter Mark, valid until 1 November 1921, redeemable at the congress directorate, with a manuscript signature below; the denomination '75 Pfennig' appears in stylised script at lower right.

Kahla's chess club issued this 75 Pfennig note during the Notgeld wave of 1921, when hundreds of German municipalities, clubs, and private organizations printed small-denomination emergency currency to address the chronic coin shortage of the early Weimar period. A chess club issuing its own banknotes is an unusual enough circumstance — the issuer here was almost certainly exploiting collector demand rather than genuine liquidity need, a practice so widespread by 1921 that the Reichsbank eventually moved to suppress so-called "Serienscheine" flooding the philatelic market.

J. P. Himmer of Augsburg handled the printing, a firm with deep roots in commercial and ecclesiastical publishing since the mid-nineteenth century.
