Bockswiese-Hahnenklee is a small spa and resort village in the Harz mountains, and this note is hotel scrip — issued by an innkeeper, not a municipality or bank. Hermann Knüppel's Hahnenklee'er Hof produced its own emergency currency during the Notgeld period, when chronic small-change shortages forced even private hospitality businesses to print their own fractional notes for use on premises and among local tradespeople.
The DeNG reference places this within the documented private Notgeld series. Three known varieties exist under the 501.1-3/6 grouping.
