Laage is a small town in Mecklenburg, and like hundreds of German municipalities it issued Notgeld during the inflationary crisis years of the early 1920s when the Reichsbank could not produce small-denomination coinage fast enough to meet demand. These municipal emergency notes were a practical stopgap, not an official monetary instrument — the city simply printed what the economy required and redeemed them locally.

The DeNG reference places this within the second type of the Laage 75 Pfennig series, suggesting at least one earlier printing variant exists for comparison.
