Rathenow, a small town on the Havel River in Brandenburg, was the center of Germany's optical instrument industry — home to firms that supplied military binoculars and rangefinders throughout both World Wars. Its Notgeld issues reflect a town with genuine industrial identity rather than the tourist-trap pictorialism that defines so much municipal emergency currency from 1921–22.
Flemming-Wiskott in Glogau was a prolific Notgeld printer, responsible for issues from dozens of small municipalities across this period. Their production quality was reliable if unremarkable.
