Kreissparkasse Hofgeismar was one of hundreds of German district savings banks that issued Notgeld during the severe small-change shortage that followed World War One. Gotthelft of Cassel was a regional press that handled a significant volume of Hessian emergency money — competent workmanship, nothing experimental. The 75 Pfennig denomination is among the more awkward values of the period, chosen specifically because the standard coinage it replaced had no obvious single-note equivalent.
