| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a large red heraldic shield bearing a white multi-pointed star, centred on the note and flanked on either side by the denomination numerals '75 PF' printed in bold red. The issuer name 'BULLENKUHLEN' appears in large black capitals across the top beneath the header 'NOTGELD DER GEMEINDE', with the district inscription 'AMTSBEZIRK BEVERN' repeated symmetrically to the left and right of the vignette. Bullenkuhlen is a village in Holstein that today has fewer than 400 inhabitants — it was barely larger when this note was issued during the Notgeld period of the early 1920s. That such a small rural municipality issued its own emergency currency is less surprising than it sounds: local authorities across Germany were printing their own denominations by the thousands, partly to cover small-change shortages and partly because collector demand had turned Notgeld into a minor revenue stream for cash-strapped towns.
The DeNG 2#206.2 reference suggests at least two known varieties for Bullenkuhlen's 75 Pfennig issue.
