Halstenbek is a small village west of Hamburg, and like hundreds of German municipalities during the Weimar-era currency collapse, it issued its own emergency Kleingeld — small-denomination Notgeld — to compensate for the chronic shortage of official coinage and low-denomination paper after the First World War. The 75-Pfennig value places this firmly in the 1920–1922 small-series wave, before hyperinflation rendered fractional denominations completely meaningless.

Konrad Hanf was a Hamburg commercial printer who handled Notgeld commissions for several northern German municipalities during this period — a local job for a local client, typical of how the Kleingeld boom worked in practice.
