Oberalm is a small village in the Salzburg district of Hallein, and like hundreds of similarly modest Austrian municipalities, it issued its own Notgeld during the postwar currency chaos rather than rely on the chronically short supply of official small change. The 75 Heller denomination is a peculiarity of Austrian local emergency money — the odd fractions (50, 75, and occasionally 80 Heller) reflect not arbitrary design but the actual coin denominations that had vanished from circulation by 1919–1920, hoarded or melted long before official replacements arrived.
Oberalm's series was redeemable only within the municipality, a condition typically printed on the reverse.
