Comments

Eggelsberg is a small market commune in Upper Austria, roughly ten kilometers from Braunau am Inn. This note is part of the vast Austrian Notgeld wave that followed the collapse of the Habsburg economy — small municipalities across the region issued their own emergency scrip between 1919 and 1922 because coin simply vanished from circulation, hoarded or melted down as the new Republic struggled to establish monetary credibility.

C. Weidinger operated as a local printer in Braunau, and his output for surrounding communes was functional rather than decorative — no elaborate multicolor fantasy art of the kind produced by Vienna-based printers for the collector market.
