Comments

Austrian Notgeld from the immediate postwar period, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left municipalities scrambling to cover a chronic shortage of small-denomination coins. Unterwald's 75 Heller note is a product of that improvised local response — issued under the authority of the Ortsgemeinde, signed by Franz Steininger, presumably in his capacity as a local official or Bürgermeister.

The 75 Heller denomination is an odd one, deliberately avoiding the round figures that might invite hoarding.
