Königsau — today Královská, a village in what is now the Czech Republic — issued this Notgeld in the immediate aftermath of the dissolution of Austria-Hungary. These small-denomination emergency notes filled a genuine vacuum: the new Czechoslovak state was absorbing formerly Austrian territories faster than coin and official currency could follow. Communes across the Sudetenland printed their own to keep local commerce moving.

Johann Riepl's single signature suggests a modest municipal operation — no countersignature, no bank official. The 75 Heller denomination is an odd one, chosen to cover specific local pricing gaps rather than fit any round arithmetic.
