Reverse description Reverse features the royal Portuguese coat of arms superimposed over an armillary sphere, a dynastic emblem associated with the House of Braganza and emblematic of Portugal's maritime heritage. The armillary sphere is of the large ('big') variety as classified by Gomes, distinguishing this subtype from the later small armillary sphere issues. The design is executed in a plain hammered style consistent with colonial copper coinage struck at Goa.
