Portugal's €7.50 denomination has no face-value utility — it exists purely as a collector vehicle, priced above any practical spending threshold from the moment of issue. The "Natural Beauties" series, launched by INCM to highlight Portugal's autonomous regions and protected landscapes, produced several entries that sold modestly and others that moved quickly; the Madeira issue fell toward the quieter end of demand.
Madeira's designation as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve dates to 1992, underpinning the official justification for the issue.
