Obverse description Central device features the national coat of arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, depicting a hydroelectric power station beneath a radiant five-pointed star, framed by sheaves of rice and bound at the base with a ribbon bearing an inscription, all rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The Hangul circular legend reads '조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행' (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) around the upper periphery. The fineness '31g 999' is inscribed to the left and right of the coat of arms, flanked by decorative foliate sprigs at the lower field. The date '2002' and denomination '700원' appear in the lower exergual area.
